Systemic lupus erythematosus (Lupus)

is an auto immune disease where the body’s immune system works too fast and attacks healthy tissues causing swelling and inflammation.  Symptoms include inflammation of different parts of the body. In mild disease symptoms include joint, skin problems and tiredness.  For moderate disease, inflammation of other parts of the skin and body, including the lungs, heart and kidneys can be involved.  In severe cases inflammation causing severe damage to the heart, lungs, brain or kidneys can be life threatening.
