CKD is a long-term condition where the kidneys do not function in the way they should. As people get older it is often more common. Anyone can be affected but there is a tendency to affect those who are black or of South Asian descent. CKD can worsen over time which leads to the point where the kidneys stop working altogether, although this is uncommon.
