Be part of the solution and make a difference
This year, PAPAA is joining our Connect Immune Research partners to highlight the impact of autoimmune conditions and the importance of working together to improve understanding, treatment and support.
Autoimmune conditions develop when the immune system, which usually protects us from infection, mistakenly attacks the body’s own tissues. Autoimmune diseases affect around one in ten people in the UK, and diagnoses are increasing.
Psoriatic disease – which includes psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis – is driven by an overactive immune system. This inflammation causes visible symptoms on the skin in psoriasis, and pain, stiffness and swelling in the joints with psoriatic arthritis.
Through Connect Immune Research, PAPAA works alongside other charities to understand how different autoimmune conditions are linked, and how this knowledge can lead to better treatments and care. Many people live with more than one autoimmune or inflammatory condition, so joined‑up research has real potential to improve lives.
Throughout March, we will be sharing information about psoriatic disease as an autoimmune condition, our involvement in Connect Immune Research, and practical support for people living with psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis.
